Refractive Eye Surgery or LASIK Consultations & Co-Management
LASIK eye surgery or another type of vision correction procedure may be a good alternative for those who do not want to rely on contact lenses or eyeglasses their entire lives; however, it is not a good fit for everyone.
If you are interested, our New Haven County optometrists can help you determine if LASIK or another corrective eye surgery is the right option for you with a laser eye surgery consult. If you qualify, we also provide both pre- and post-operative eye surgery care to support you through the preparation and recovery process.
What are Refractive Eye Surgeries?
Refractive eye surgeries are a series of procedures designed to correct a variety of different vision problems for those wanting to reduce or eliminate their need for contact lenses or eyeglasses throughout the day. They typically involve reshaping the cornea or implanting a lens in the eye. Some refractive surgeries include a keratoplasty (ALK), conductive keratoplasty (CK), laser thermal keratoplasty (LTK), intracorneal rings (Intacs), and LASIK.
Refractive eye surgeries can include a variety of different procedures, but LASIK surgery is most widely known. A LASIK procedure is an outpatient surgery that is minimally invasive and performed by a computer-controlled laser and small blade. This quick procedure is used to reshape the cornea and usually only involves minor side effects. LASIK eye surgery can be used to correct vision problems such as astigmatism, nearsightedness, and farsightedness.
At Lighthouse Vision, we’re happy to discuss the various options with you in a refractive eye surgery or LASIK consultation appointment and help you determine which procedure may be the best choice for your individual needs.
Refractive Surgery & LASIK Consultations
If you are interested in laser eye surgery, you can schedule a LASIK eye surgery consultation at our office. Our doctors will start with a comprehensive eye exam to help us discern if LASIK or another vision correction procedure is an option for you. If you are found to be a good candidate for LASIK surgery, we will refer you to an experienced local ophthalmologist for the procedure.
Your LASIK evaluation at our office will include an assessment of your vision and overall eye health. To determine your candidacy, we will evaluate your current prescription as well as other factors such as any presence of eye diseases and the state of your cornea.
If you qualify and move forward with LASIK, we can attend to your pre-op eye surgery care, offering you instructions on what to do (and what not to do) before your surgery as well as guidance on how to make the recovery process easier. If you experience dry eye syndrome, our doctors can also guide you through treatment for dry eye before laser vision correction, as this will help avoid complications from eye surgery.
Refractive Surgery & LASIK Post-Op Care
Your body will need time to heal and recover after LASIK surgery. We offer post-operative care for LASIK and refractive eye surgery in Milford. Our post-operative care is used to monitor your recovery and address any issues that may arise in the days after surgery. We will observe any side effects and offer instructions on what to do and what to avoid doing to ensure a thorough recovery.
